Finding history of a particular day

My aunt and uncle are soon to celebrate their Golden Wedding and my mum is making a bit of a speech. She wants to know other things that happened on that particular day, doesn't have to be earth shattering news. I tried putting the date into Google but it wasn't very good. Anyone know a site that would help me find what I'm looking for.

BTW so far I've discovered an Archers wedding and the start of a Korean martial art

Blimey you lot are good. I told my mum hat someone on here would be able to help. As ever, mn comes up trumps.
