Will dh's £90K car make us a target for crime?

Have changed my name for this to avoid accusations of being ostentatious.

Dh has a £90K sports care. There is a waiting list of 12-18 months....

I hadn't considered this before but a friend has suggested that we step up our security at our house (we are semi rural - not many neighbours) eg CCTV, and our alarm should be linked to a rapid response security firm rather than a just a simple auditory alarm (as per now). He suggested that dh might be followed in his car and our house targetted (with car theft in mind). The miscreants then might, seeing that our house looks 'promising', be tempted to break in rather than just filch the vehicle.

Has he watched to many police dramas or does he have a point?

(Feeling all sort of nervous and vulnerable atm, not helped by a murder in the village yesterday - aggravated burglary)

I don't know but would imagine that thieves would target any car that they could steal easily. Do you live in a wealthy neighbourhood?

I know loads of sports car owners and am one myself. I just pop mine in the garage at night (mainly coz the soft top leaks)

People literally stop and do double takes (and take photos with their mobiles) because there are so few on the roads. It doesn't do a lot for me because I am not into possessions / material goods, but dh likes it and it is harmless enough I suppose...(he doesn't have many vices)

We live in a mixed 'economy' , i.e. fairly well off area but not stratospherically so, however I thought you were more likely to be burgled in poorer areas?

I guess I am just worried about it being stolen to order by an expert criminal gang. Does that sound ridiculously paranoid? I have been freaked out a bit by the local aggravated robbery murder...

Does it have that micro chip techy thing on it? For 90k I'd expect it to smack the thieves over the head with a baseball bat itself.

it does have the microchip thing and the security centre would remortely disable its engine if it was nicked...but to clarify, I don't give a rats arse about the car. They can have it. I am just worried it could lure hardened criminal nutcases to our home address where they would break in and bludgeon us to death...

I've got an over active imagination haven't I....or have I?

No real burgling in poor areas, but you could be burgled anywhere tbh.

Lovely car.

I would ensure it was securely parked, and make sure your insurance is uptodate and spot on.

Those that nick cars of this calibre tend to be professionals who probably won't be too bothered about breaking into houses.

OK... keep your car keys upstairs at night.

An aquaintence of mine had his stolen by theives reaching into the hall way with a hook on a stick and nicking his keys off the hall table.

It was found intact a month later in Cheadle, but one of the wheels was buckled and there was a nasty scrape down one side.

three months after this event, the poor guy was mugged for his keys in a multistorey car park in Manchester. He bleeped the car from a distance away to open the door and the gang of thieves had been waiting around to catch the owner.

He got it back yet again intact but scratched.

I know of a someone who through a party in a very well to do neighbourhood and lots of their well to do friends turned up in their nice cars. Keys in their pockets in the cloakroom. Party moved outside thieves broke in went to cloakroom and atole lots of sets of keys and the respective cars.

But surely, if thieves wanted the keys and they're upstairs in bed with you(the keys - sorry), aren't the bad men more likely to break into your home and rough you up(or worse)until you give them the keys to the car?

If I was boasting I would do it in my real name so that I could get brand recognition -doh! . Bit pointless to boast anonymously (to what end?) What a fuck witted comment.

I'm not looking for sympathy - I am looking for honest opinions about whether people think this will make us vulnerable to crime and whether I need to get a bit real and soup up home security. I am a worrier and concerned about my children.

I have to disagree. (about the car)If I had the inclination to spend 90k on a car it would have to be a Aston Martin. why go for anything else? a new DB9 goes a bit over budget (£110k) but you can get a DB7 for a cool 40.
