Clothes rationing was still on. So something about 6 years old with a slightly holey cardi, I would think.

Oh, fancied something all feminine and pretty.

NHS was born in 1948 - go as a nurse

Hulababy · 07/09/2008 21:48

What would a 1948 NHS nurse look like?

No need for a coat; that just gives you an impression of the shapes: so, a below the knee very slightly flared skirt and a fitted jacket; very fitted at the waist was the main look I think.

real people

Hair worn in pin curls or rolled at the front into a sort of quiff with padding.

I LOVE fancy dress and am very jealous!

style me 1940s

Hulababy · 08/09/2008 18:12

Thansk all.

I now have a dress - a genuine one from the rght year to. A friend's mum had some of her mum's clothes. The dress is very floral, big white v collar and I have a blue 1940s belt for the waist. I even have a photo of her mum wearing it in 1947/1948! It isnt as smart or glam as those in the links though, lol - but it is truely genuine!

I just need to sort accesories and hair now.

Saw parents [the women anyway] with hair tied up in headscarf if styling proves a problem.

Hulababy · 08/09/2008 18:17

I may need to go that route! Or a wig!
