WERE VISAS NEEDED TO GET INTO THE UK FROM SWITZERLAND IN 1930'S?

Bit random I know but am trying to trace my maternal grandmother and know she came to England around 1938/39 from Switzerland.

Am thinking if she had a visa there may be some record somewhere - longshot I know!

Anyone suggest where I could find out?

TIA

There should be records of visa regimes at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office or the Home Office. Or phone the Swiss Embassy (or the British Embassy in Berne) and ask them if they have an archive of such information.
