OK, so I've downloaded Firefox...

Anyway, how do I delete things from the little list of options that pop up to autofill a field for you? With IE you just highlighted them and hit delete - this doesn't seem to work. It's very important that I can delete the list of thigs I've googled for - especially if we get another of those internet shopping games

Tools>Options>Privacy, look for 'Saved form information' and click the clear button next to it

Ah, but I don't want to clear all of it as my address gets prefilled in lots of places. With IE you could highlight individual items and delete them. There must be an equivalent surely...?

I didn't like it and moved back to IE after a couple of days; email program even worse IMHO

If I can'c clear my google search box, I'll have to ditch Firefox

There is no way of doing that. With IE though you are more likely to get Adware, Spyware, viruses, and be hacked!

To clear that, just right-click in the search box and click 'clear search history'

Not to mention more pop-ups, bugs and lots of other problems

In which case I'm ditching Firefox then and will trust to my firewall, antivirus and Spy Bot software. Given that I've never had a problem with anything before, Firefox has nothing to offer me really.

It's not just the Google box, it's stuff like logons where other people have used the PC etc.

And I don't get popups anyway thanks to a popup stopper

Just thought I'd post that I HATE HATE HATE IE!

I use netscape now SOOOOO much better and so much easier! IE has too many pop ups, most are porn, and it crashes every 2 minutes.

logons is simple - get windows XP and then you can each have a seperate login, and unlike the others windows editions you don't have to log out (and close everything) for someone else to be able to log-in and do stuff :-)

We have Windows XP with a log on for each family member but when, say, Essbee pops round she uses my logon as it's there, logged on. Also, I may sometimes have used a different MN name which I want to delete.

Given that IE has given me no problems whatsoever (including pop ups and crashing), I see no reason to stick with Firefox as I really like to be able to delete individual bits.

I guess some of this must depend on what sites you use. I stopped using Netscape about 4 or 5 years ago because so many sites I used for work didn't work properly (crashing if you hit the back button, for example). I had used netscape for years before that without any problems. But since I've used IE I have never had probems with pop-ups (use a pop-up blocker), never ever had a virus, and it crashes about once every two years. Horses for courses I suppose

OK, if I click in my MN Nickname box I have 5 identical SoupDragons and 2 I've never used for Mumsnet. The first S one isn't SoupDragon and it irritates me. In IE I could delete the superfluous ones and it only showed me appropriate MN ones anyway.

tamum - believe you me things have changed dramatically in the last 4 or 5yrs. Infact now Firefox is gaining (sp) users, while IE is losing them see here

Most web developers are now either updating their websites, or building them (which ever is relevant) to accomdate 'other' browsers, as IE continues to cause problems (only the other day Microsoft announced they'd be launching yet ANOTHER version of IE!

PS soup - when did you download it?? Give it at least a week or so before 'giving up' on it as there's lots of stuff to 'learn' - took me about 1 week to 'adjust' when DH swapped IE for Mozilla (hasn't got round to downloading Firefox yet LOL) and then I discovered it was much better.

The individual deleting thing is a big one for me. Especially as I haven't had any problems with IE whatsoever. Another niggle was that with IE, if I typed in the "add a message£ box I could move my mouse pointer outside the box and use the wheel to scroll down to the "post" box. With FF I had to click outside the "New message" box to do this. Nothing major obviously but it was irritating.

Gwenick, that may well be true in the general world, and in fact I know it is, but there are a number of very important websites that I use for work that are NOT compatible with Netscape. I know, because I still have both and do try Netscape occasionally. It's just not deemed to be that important. They may well be compatible with Firefox but I don't have any real reason to try.
