Ebay - An item I sold and posted hasn't arrived. What should I do ?

I sold an item for £2.50 inc postage. It was sent 2nd class on 4th Feb along with 3 other items (for different buyers) that have all arrived.

The buyer has just emailed me to advise nothing has arrived. Do I offer a refund ? What is the correct thing to do ?

I would def give it a bit longer first, i've had things turn up after 3 weeks. If you have the receipt you can claim from royal mail, but it's prob not worth it, as they will only refund the value of the item.
I would personally give it a week then refund if nothing turns up.

If it was too big to fit in their letterbox, it may have been returned to their local sorting office. You should call it yourself to find out if it's there. Sometimes the postie forgets to leave a card. This is what happened when the same thing happened to me.

If it's not there I'd wait a bit and then refund. For that price it's not worth getting bad feedback.

Did you get a receipt of posting? I sell a lot and now always get this - its free and covers you, if you did get this then RM make you wait up to 35 days before declaring it missing and reimbursing you but not for postage. So much hassle and for such little value I'd refund after 14 days

I did have one item that went 2nd class last mth and took 18 days to arrive, from Lincs to London... so it probably will turn up. Eventually

The same thing happened to me - I sold a car lock thing on ebay and posted it off. It hadn't arrived after 2 weeks so I got a form from the Post Office and registered it lost. For replacement value I put the actual cost of buying a new car lock rather than the price I'd been paid for it second hand. I got the full value plus the postage costs back, and I refunded the buyer and split the profit with him as compensation. So we were all happy.

Thanks ladies. Didn't realise I could claim cost back, but as you say it was such a low cost item I have advised buyer if it doesn't turn up by Monday I will refund. First time this has happened to me.
