Hello. I have just moved to the US and would like to pick your brains if that's ok.

  1. Where does everyone do their shopping?
  2. Where can I buy Lamb?? There is none, anywhere!
  3. Is there an equivalent to Medised for kids??
  4. Which are the best nappies?? They all seem very thin and leak.
  5. Where do you go for a night out?? I live near disney.....but this gets very boring for a night out.
  6. I heard from someone a while ago that some restaurants have like a nanny service in them so parents can have a nice meal. Do you know where these are???

Sorry for all the questions........I'm just trying to settle in here in Florida.

Thankyou in advance xx

Lamb just isn't something we had in Canada - we'd get imported NZ lamb, but it was frozen. I never ate lamb until I moved to the UK - it's just not part of the diet. I think this is because we have a lot more land in North America, so if we have rocky poor bits, only good enough for sheep (not cows, or farming wheat), we don't bother farming it. Whereas in Europe, you use a much higher proportion of the land.

More usefully, I think health food stores are sometimes called whole food stores?

GNC seems to be in a lot of malls.
I know I sound like I have shares in Wholefoods (my link earlier) but even if you have to travel a bit to get to one it's worth it for a bit of a stock up by the sounds of it, if you're after vitamins etc as well as food and wine etc, because that is exactly what it specializes in, plus it also does english sausages (Irish pork bangers). I almost cried with happiness when I discovered ours.
How are you settling in? Have you got nice neighbours? Does your area have a "welcome wagon" (sounds gruesome but was amazing in my area)?

If the health food store is for vitamins...look online....it'll be cheaper and easier.

Try www.craigslist.org and go to the city near you for meeting up with nice people.

I haven't found a Wholefoods near us , but we do have The Fresh Market, and there's one in Orlando. It's not quite as good, but is similar. There are probably one or two "British" shops near you, and if you find them they are a good source for English choccies and stuff if you're feeling homesick.

From a quick Google I found that there's the British Castle Pub on I-92 in Kissimmee!

It has been chilly recently - more consistently so than I remember from last year. Today was nice though, wasn't it? I actually got slightly sunburnt on the beach because we didn't realise quite how nice it was going to be and how strong the sun was. ( should know better)
