What should I buy a two year old boy as a birthday pressie?

I am very out of touch with two year old boys and was a bit lost and bemused in the plastic vehicle section of the toy shop today and came away with nothing.

What on earth should I buy him? He has loads of cars and trucks, they don't have a very big house or garden so don't want to get something that will be a pita for them. Would spend up to about £25. No plastic crap either really. Does something exist that might be 'useful' but he'll still enjoy opening?

Any ideas please?

my now 3yo ds would always want a digger (he has loads but that's what he wants).

Other things he has loved- a bubble lawnmower
bubble machine
wheel barrow
gardening tools and plants
tractor ted DVD
diggers and dumpers DVD

really lovely floor puzzle, and books if you don't want to go for plastic toys,

Play house/tent that folds down,

Favourite toys around here are cars (the matchbox type ones) and Noah's ark little people thingy, does he have a toy garage?

He has diggers, and a garage. Smallish garden is full of garden toys already.

Is he too young for a voucher of some sort?

Actually, a jigsaw or books might work...

my 6 year old and 3 year old are currently playing with a set that ds1 got on his 2nd bierthday

you could get a basic set then a elc special item to go with it....

DS just turned 2, presents he has enjoyed:

• Megablocks/Duplo
• Books
• 'Play' food (he has a bag of fruit & veg from ELC)
• Cars and other wheely things

All children seem to like bubble machine - you should be able to get one and a big bottle of bubble mix for under £25.

Oh, yes and wooden IKEA train set (think Tesco do similar, liek a Brio rip-off...)

What about something useful like a door hanger storage thingy like this

or a novelty shelf like this

They are really stuck for space.

They look useful but I wouldn't be thrilled if someone bought me some bedroom stuff TBH as the things he already has in there are orangey jungle type things.

How about a hooded towell/poncho type thingy for swimming?

Or clothes?

What about an aquadraw, even the older children who visit play with ours. No mess and very small to pack up and store.
