Does having a hard life make you stronger, or leave you bitter?

ive had quite a rough life so far im only 21, but im much stronger for it allthough i do feel sorry for myself sometimes useuall when im drunk
i get very angry with my mum and dad for the way they treated me and i will never forgive them

i try to teach the children that come to me that all they go through can either make you weak in which case the bad things have won or make you stronger,as soon as they take this on board you can see them bloom in front of your eyes

being bitter saps your energy and makes you weak,again it lets the bad things win

both. I am bitter for everything bad I have ever had to go through that wasn't my fault....things that other people could have stopped happening. But at the same time it has made me stronger and more determined that my children will never have to go through what I have.
