My DH was told today he is going to be made redundant sometime within the next 6 weeks.
He does'nt know yet what redundancy package if any,he will get.
We are due to go on holiday next Monday, just a Mobile home in France, but DC's realy excited.
The holiday is paid for in full, so just need petrol, food and spending money.

Do we:
a)Not go and loose holiday which cost £1,200.00
b)Go but DH will loose 2 weeks job hunting time.
C) I go on holiday with DC's and leave DH to job hunt. (My mum has offered to come with me to help with DC's if DH does'nt come)

What would you do???

Go you have paid for it and he will be fresh for interviews

sad for you. What a difficult time. What does your DH say he wants to do?

It would be a shame for your DCs to miss out - will DH be ok on his own if you go with your mum?

How awful for both of you. I would go either with DH or Mum. Hope it all works out for you.

DH is in two minds.
If he knew what redundancy package he was getting, he would know if he had any breathing space to find another job.

Company has gone into Administration and although in his contract it states that if he is made redundant he would recieve 6 months money, he doesnt know if this still stands under these cercumstances. He could be told next week to go and recieve no redundancy at all, which means he needs to find job a.s.a.p or no money at all, (We have no savings) or he could be held onto for the full 6 weeks and recieve 6 months money, in which case we have a bit of breathing space.

He would be fine left on his own, very capable.

Well. you would have to eat at home anyway, so it's petrol and spending money. Work out how much it will cost to get there and then make a decision.

Definitely go on the holiday - it may be a while before the next holiday, you will waste £1200 by not going, and apart from the petrol you would have to spend money on food and outings etc if you stayed at home, you will all enjoy yourselves and in the scheme of things 2 weeks is a very short time. Maybe your DH could take a laptop etc with him, and give his mobile phone number to job agencies.
