Suggestions of ways to PREPARE for the day ahead

I have been reading some posts throughout MN abut mums getting up at the same time as their kids and the day kind of crowds in on them. This has happened to me quite a lot (I have one 14 month old DS) and I really want to find something 'for me' which means I get up earlier than my little boy, do the ' thing' and that hopefully prepares me for the day to come.
I have talked to some mums who get up early - before the rest of the household - and go for a run or a brisk walk. Then they come back and feel they can face whatever the world has to throw at them - within reason, of course!
Has anyone any suggestions at to what that 'me' thing could be? I love walking, so that could be it..

If you love going for a walk, go for a walk.

For me it is a cup of coffee and watching the news.
I couldn't leave the house before Dh is awake as he wouldn't hear the DC wake.

Dh always brings me a coffee before he leaves for work at 6am - I like to get up and have a long shower and get dressed. The day seems much nicer if i've been able to put on make up, body lotion and straighten my hair without rushing.

If I'm still my pj's when I go downstairs with dc then I just get nowhere for most of the morning.

Lovely Dh you have there Connor.
yes, I'm there with you on the PJS thing. It's a pet hate of mine to be in them any longer than 5 minutes when I get up. It somehow makes me feel so out of control.

I have no time to myself in the morning. If I wanted some I would need to be up before 5.30am to have anytime before the children get up!

I just find myself completely demotivated if I stay in them. I could do housework in jammi's but never feel inclined to. I have started making sure that there are always clothes clean and ironed for myself and dc's for next day. I used to be terrible at this and spent most mornings in pj's farting around because all our clothes were sat in the ironing pile.

I do savour my morning coffee, don't think I could get out of bed without it now!!
