Hi
I am just writing for some advice . I have had the mirena coil in for seven years no issues at all regular light periods. The past few weeks my periods have been erratic I came on my period and it lasted much longer than normal then 10 days later my period has arrived again and I have been bleeding for nearly two weeks . I have had a private scan last year cervix and uterus appeared normal apart from slightly enlarged uterus . I have attended the gp last week who advised the change in periods is most likely down to the hormones dropping in my coil and it will need changing . I also had my due smear this week . Has anyone else had this with their mirena coil

Yes my periods returned after 5 years so I had the coil changed on doctors recommendation then they stopped again.

You need a new one fitted.

I’m so worried there’s something else going on 🙈

How old are you? It stops working after five -7 years depending on what it was inserted for

Hi @JanuaryLove I am 38 nearly 39 it was inserted for contraception . I think it’s most likely I need a new coil isn’t it and I need to stop over thinking it x

Sounds like you need to get it replaced but I tried to get my Mirena changed recently as it’s 5 years old but was told they now last 8 years, so they wouldn’t change it (despite me also needing it for progesterone to go along with my Oestrogel)
