So unsure about house move

Help. We have recently had an offer accepted on a lovely house with a beautiful garden. We chose it because it’s in a brilliant school catchment area. I know I’m incredibly fortunate to be in this position however, I am getting serious worries about the house move. We upped our budget 3 times to get the house and are going to be spending £130k more than our current house to get the above. I am worried about the area, there’s very little in walking distance as it’s on the edge of a village. I’m used to living in a town with plenty in walking distance and I often take the toddler to local parks/shops etc by foot. There is plenty to do a short drive away but just not in walking distance.

DH likes the house and area and does not want to entertain the idea of viewing any more houses as we previously looked at about 20 houses and he’s exhausted by it.

So either we stay where we are, with lots on the doorstep but below average schools. Or we fork out to live in an area with excellent schools but a quieter life that’s reliant on car use. Obviously of course there are large implications for pulling out with fees and impacting our buyers / seller’s lives. Kicking myself for not going round the area lots before offering :(

What would you do?

The perfect house doesn't exist. There's always a compromise somewhere.

an additional £130k is a heck of a lot of money to spend on a location your already unsure about.

Move,

i moved to a sleepy village which has turned out to be the most vibrant, friendly place I have ever lived.

You won’t know what is beneath the surface until you move in, meet people and get involved !!

Location always comes first…

I'm on the fence. I lived near a town centre within easy walking distance of several parks, swimming centre, all sorts of baby/toddler clubs and play areas. I would have gone crazy without this. Tons of fresh air and exercise also.
By the time DC left junior school, I felt that we'd outlived town life and it was all about school location, being near his friends.
I would question whether now is the right time to move.

Have a proper walk around the village, I live in the edge of a village and a lot was tucked away/hidden and if it’s is U.K. there are lots of footpaths?

Upsizing your budget like this should fill you with excitement and if it doesn't it isn't the right move for you.

Another house will come along.

Decent schooling is incredibly important. I would absolutely prioritise that. But if the main reason you are choosing is because of the school, don’t just read the ofsed report, go and tour it.

Trust your gut instinct I say
