Old date viewed my LinkedIn and it has brought back difficult memories

About a month ago, LinkedIn notified me that a man I went on a date with over 15 years ago had viewed my profile. We work in totally different fields and have no connections in common. It’s made me feel very weird because, though I never told anybody, I believe he raped me.

I was in my mid twenties and he was at least 10 years older. We met online and went for drinks. I got very drunk and we went to his fancy penthouse north London flat. Think large bottles of Belvedere vodka on the kitchen island and a huge terrace etc. He seemed exciting, but in hindsight there were so many red flags. There was a post it on the door when we got there which he quickly pulled off, there were ladies items in the flat, he stopped messaging me on his phone but used email instead before we met. Obviously he was not single, but I was young and naive.

We had consensual sex, but at some point during the night I woke up and he was having sex with me. I remember having a shower and just crying on the floor. We never spoke again after I went home and had no contact. Until this view of my LinkedIn page.

Not sure how to feel or how on earth he found me. I have a distinctive but fairly difficult to spell surname. I’m now happily married with 2 children. Just needed to put this somewhere other than in my head.

Gosh I am so sorry.
He sounds like a nasty nightmare.
He clearly used his ‘status’ to impress you.
When you woke up he was raping you, I am afraid. Nobody consents to sex when they are unconscious.
As Gisele Pelicot puts it, let the shame change sides.
In terms of practicalities, I hope you can block him from searching for you?
Does your husband know about this attack?
It is absolutely normal for women not to tell anyone about assaults like this, not even a close female friend or relative.
I hope someone wiser than me can give you some better pointers on getting emotional support, but please know this man knows what he did, it won’t have been the first time.
Your priority now is you and your wellbeing.
I am so very, very sorry this happened to you.
