Would you move if neighbours excluded your family from street life?

We have moved into this house almost three years ago and it was our dream house. Upon moving in we found out our next door neighbours are not entirely warm towards us which didnt bother us at that time. As time went by we realised the street is quite social and close knit, families with small kids close to our sons age. The problem is that we are totally excluded. We are both foreign and little introverted but always friendly. We both have decent jobs and made the house up so it sits nicely with the other houses in the street, we don't invite any loud people over, we both lived in the UK for almost 20 years. It really hurts me and seeing people gathering and laughing in the street or the gardens with their kids playing together i am worried this will affect my son also sooner or later. I am unhappy here and its affecting my mental health. Am i too sensitive? Btw most of the neighbours do say hello, but some are ignoring us when they meet us on the street though pretending they don't see us. My husband is not too bothered he says but it also makes him annoyed sometimes. Would you consider moving?

Aw I’m sorry OP, it’s tough. You’re not in a village are you? Some places can be awfully cliquey particularly towards “incomers” and if your face doesn’t fit you’re not getting in. I’ve had similar and it really hurts, particularly when you can see all the kids in a neighbours garden and yours is the only one that isn’t invited.

If you’re happy in your home then it seems a shame to leave. I just kept my head down and built my social life elsewhere. I was glad of it because sooner or later there’s always a falling out.

If you turn it round think of it in terms that they’re shown you who they are by not including you and ignoring you. Are they really people you’d want to socialise with?

No, I wouldn't move. They sound like they've been friends a long time. People aren't automatically best buddies or want to hang out with people just because they live on the same road as them.

Id be bloody grateful. My neighbours are nosey sods and we cant do a damn thing without them commenting or asking about stuff. If I didn’t have to do more than say hello to them, I would be very happy!

Did you invite them round and they refused or did you just wait for them to take the initiative? If you aren’t making an effort then they’re probably just being polite and respecting your boundaries. Not everyone wants to be friends with their neighbours.
