My Mum seems to think it would cost about £850 to £1000

Do you mean the whole house, every room ?

If so, then it would be alot more than that I think.

Guadalupe · 24/06/2008 12:51

£2000 I reckon, including all woodwork

mumblechum · 24/06/2008 12:51

It cost me £1200 to have big living room done, £800 to have little one done, £750 for main bedroom and ensuite. That's just painting, and doesn't include the materials. Oh, and was 2.5 years ago.

I think your mum needs a reality check!

mankyscotslass · 24/06/2008 12:51

We were 600 for a hall and 3 bedrooms, no prep work included, about 4 years ago. We are in Manchester, and that was the middle wuote of 3.

chocolatemummy · 24/06/2008 12:52

well we recently had a quote for our hall, stairs and landing which was £650 so a whole house I expect would be about £2000?

micci25 · 24/06/2008 12:52

i wouldnt it id do it myself. dp wants to get a decorator into our new house personally i think its a poointless waste of money, but its his house!!

ours will cost £17 per day and you would expect at least one room done in a day but its family friend who has retired really and just does little jobs here and there. but that sounds like an awfull lot cutekids. do you ahve buy wallpaper ect too or is that included in the price? if its included then thats not so bad.

A professional decorator would probably charge a couple of thousand, depending on the preparation needed. Sanding down skirting boards, priming them, painting ceilings, etc all costs extra.

I reckon depending where you live it could cost £2000-3000.

Less obviously for a handyman with a paintbrush rather than a proper decorator.

Joanie · 24/06/2008 13:03

I'm guessing about £1,00 PER ROOM!
It depends where you live tbh.

mumblechum · 24/06/2008 13:08

£17 a day?????

Sheesh, round here it's £300 a day.

LIZS · 24/06/2008 21:58

Ours was done throughout before we moved in and agent reckoned it was 4-5k - empty 4 bed plus loft.

TracyK · 24/06/2008 22:01

We paid £2000 for a lot of a big house done in emulsion and just a little woodwork - really nice job. Paid £200 a bedroom to get woodchip off, lined, emulsioned and all woodwork done - very poor job.

My BIL is a Painter/Decorater (Works around the Kent & Sussex boarder) and he charges £130 per day plus materials if that helps.
