Hi there
Has anyone got experience of taking Desogestrel in their late 40s please? I have been given it for bad endometriosis/period pain but i am scared of side effects - physical and mental. I suffer from anxiety so i don’t want to make it worse! Also, i finally have a libido after ten years in a marriage with a toxic partner and it would be nice not to lose it again! Thanks

I had extremely heavy bleeding at 49 and was given a double dose of Desogestrel along with Norethestrone to control it. I took two Desogestrel a day, one morning, one evening and Norethestrone if it was really bad. Unfortunately I developed breast cancer within around 10 months. I had asked about breast cancer risk and was dismissed. Nobody will discuss the link with me despite there being peer reviewed research connecting both those drugs with my type of breast cancer. It’s extremely frustrating. I feel that I was overdosed because I know others who have taken Desogestrel safely. I decided I would mention what happened to me if anybody ever asked so that risk can be discussed with GP. I’m sorry if that’s not what you wanted to hear but it’s certainly something to consider.
