Do i stick to my Maclaren XT or get a travel system for a newborn???

No 1 - i think i want a travel system so i able to see my baby whilst im walking (im deaf so just thinking about me not seeing my baby making me weary) but only for 3-6 months and then put the baby in the Maclaren.

No 2 - Atm my dp is using the car in the week for work and i use it at weekends if needed, so hopefully (fingers cross) ill get the car back full time by the time the baby is born. If i get a travel system, i can unclip the car seat off the pram and put it straight into the carseat base. Or do i stick to my Maclaren and get the baby out of the pram and put it in a carseat which ive already got and hope the baby doesnt wake up!.

The travel system ive got my eye on is in the local papers so its going very cheap indeed.

HELP!!

It sounds like you want it so get it. You are not wasting money unnecessarily if you buy it second hand and you can always pass it on again afterwards.

MamaG · 23/06/2008 13:47

I think you should get the travel system. You're not spending a fortune and I loved being able to see DS when we were out with the pram (him facing me) and would have hated not to be able to see him as a newborn.

You can always re-sell it afterwards

Its so convenient to sneak the sleeping baby straight into the car as well, rather than trying to sneak them in!

MrsTittleMouse · 23/06/2008 13:48

If it's cheap and you really want it, why not? The only downside that I can see is that is something else that needs a home, but then we live in a very small house!

paperdoll · 23/06/2008 13:48

I reckon you should go for it if it is within your budget - I don't think it is a purchase you will regret.

funnypeculiar · 23/06/2008 13:50

tbh, I wouldn't bother. You're only talking about 3-6 mths anyway, & ime, babies either transfer easily between carseat & buggy ... or wake up regardless. Spend the money omn a sling instead

But I do have a personal bugbear about babies being stuck in their car seats all day (which i'm sure you wouldn't do ) which probably biases me somewhat

QueenBhannae · 23/06/2008 13:50

You should not use a car seat for more than two hours at a time according to guidelines.
Personally I would buy a rear facing buggy off ebay cheap. How much is the travel system in the paper?

biglips · 23/06/2008 15:36

The only time that the baby will be in the carseat is when ill be driving. Yes i do have a thing about babies being in a carseat all day.

its a M&P pliko P3 travel system (pushchair and carseat) for £80.00

or do i get a carrycot pram??? and use the maclaren for the car (ive already got a carseat anyway)

Depends what colour pliko it is and how old for £80?
My vote is for the carrycot pram and mac for the car.
A pliko pramette, what about one of those if you want a telescopic fold?

biglips · 23/06/2008 16:16

Queen - to be honest i was searching for a carrycot pram at first, but then i thought about the car seat.

There is a Silvercross sleepover pram for sale for £60.

I would look for a pushchair that is rear facing up to toddler years so you can see & chat to the baby for as long as possible? Keep the maclaren for in the back of the car.

QueenBhannae · 23/06/2008 16:36

Silvercross sleepovers are lovely prams
I have a pramette for sale atm
this one here but it is missing its apron.
I am asking £100 plus courier for it though.
I have just given away a teutonia on here and the lady is collecting tonight otherwise you could have had that free.
If you already have a maclaren though, you may be best going for the sleepover. The bouncy chassis are gorgeous

biglips · 23/06/2008 20:02

well the M&P - she bought it in 2004 and she stopped using it a year ago as got a buggy.
