I think it's only about a week - can you give the vet a ring?

pagwatch · 21/06/2008 15:24

our dog had it. Lasted about a week once he started his treatment. what does your vet say?

singyswife · 21/06/2008 16:22

I took her up and he gave her antibiotics but he sayd it can in some cases last up to six weeks. My other dog is now displaying symptoms too, Do I go back up???

I work in a rescue kennels and we see dogs with k/cough quite regularly. Unfortunately there is no actual treatment for it and are usually put on antibiotics if showing secondary bacterial infections. As your vet said it can last up to 6 weeks so you may have to sort out alternative arrangements for your dogs as the kennels are unlikely to take them- sorry.

They are not going to a kennel they are going to a friends house but she also has a dog. She is ketting him vaccinated on Monday will that make any difference???? I am hoping that it is just a mild form they have and they wil be better soon. Does cough mixture help, it seems like such a horrible cough?

Sorry I thought they were going to kennels. The vaccination only give protection against bordetella (the commonest strain of kennel). As there are other strains of kennel cough it is difficult to say if your friends dog will not catch k/cough. Hopefully it will be a mild form.

DUSTIN · 21/06/2008 16:40

I mean't to say hopefully your dogs have a mild form and make a quick recovery.

I hope so too. It doesnt take much to throw and send me into being a raving lunatic and 2 weeks before I go on a much needed holiday this happens. I am in a state

Should be a week to 10 days.

Not sure why, but there is a LOT of KC going around right now. I've seen a lot of dogs recently come down with it, even though they've been vacinated.

Yeah it does seem to be rife just now. I just hope that they havent passed it onto my mil's wee dog. She is so pathetic that she would really get it bad.
