Sickness bug 2 children - on holiday - health anxiety

Hi all,

I am currently on holiday with my family. My son woke up Saturday night vomiting. Thankfully only lasted couple of hours, bit off Sunday but back in action today Monday.

first day of our holidays today and 5pm my 2 year old vomited. Obv my eldest had a bug and youngest caught it.

i understand this post may come across so stupid! But I am a real worrier. I have health anxiety and I am SO scared I’ll be next to catch this bug - as much as I know it can’t be helped if I do it’s just totally freaking me out.

my 2 year old has lied on top of me since. When he’s being sick he wants me right there. Which is absolutely fine and wouldn’t have it any other way! Although I have a real fear of sickness I’m great when it comes to my kids and will do whatever it takes for them to feel comfortable and better. me on the other hand I am not great.

as I’ve had all this time to sit think - being nap trapped I have talked myself into it. Thinking does my belly feel right. I’ve not ate so belly is making noises but also thinking is this the start

dad is amazing! Great support all round. Really lucky. However my little one will only be with me. This makes me panic even more to think if I did get it how would it work out / eve tho I know it always does

I had a really bad case of norovurus with my eldest back in 2024. I genuinely think this is where my health anxiety came from. I ended up loosing 2 stone in weight over a couple of months as it just totally knocked me off my feet

obv being away too / it’s making me spiral. Suppose I’m just after some positive stories! Do you always catch your little ones vomiting bugs?

im trying to remind myself my eldest was only for a few hours. Thankfully my little ones hasn’t had any more sick since around 7pm. Dad caught the last one my eldest brought home and literally had one bad sickness episode and that was him done obv sluggish for following day. I guess I have just read too many horror stores about these bugs. As much as nobody likes them and they are not nice it’s not always crazy horror stores is it.

thank you for reading if you got this far xx thank you xx

It's hard to tell. Sometimes not. You might be lucky. But all sickness bugs pass. You've got to just wait it out if it comes to that but it may not. Their dad will be there!

Oh and I've had bad norovirus and I know it's truly awful. This could easily be a more run of the mill bug though. It was over quickly with your eldest

I am exactly as you describe and would feel exactly the same as you. If I feel nauseous I cannot control my panicking and I have a total meltdown it’s something I cannot deal with. So sicknessbugs terrify me.

My youngest started nursery this year and brought a lot of sickness bugs into the house. I would say out of four of them, one of them was caught by me, DH and our elder DC. Another was caught by elder DC. Two were only her. There’s a very good chance you won’t get it.

my fear centres around me getting it whilst in sole charge of the children and not being able to function. Your partner is there, if anything happens you can leave him to deal with the kids. Also it sounds as though whatever it is it’s short and not that terrible norovirus you have been through before.

i would try and stay distracted and you can work yourself up and make yourself feel very sick. 48 hours after your 2 year old finished vomiting I would say you can relax. Good luck.

Thank you! That’s it, I keep telling myself this wishing I could just keep calm and ride it out. Yet I’m spiralling! Thank you for taking time to reply

Thank you! As much as I hate the other of others feeling this way it’s nice to know I’m not alone.

my kids are none the wiser! I know my little one is in safe hands with us and we’ll do anything to help him and make him comfortable however like you say when it comes to the thought of me I am awful and I don’t no what it is. When I last had the bug although awful I dealt with it well and remember thinking I shouldn’t worry next time, yet here I am

the thought of being unwell away from home too really worries me

so I’d usually keep busy but my boy has lied on me since 5pm. He will not go to dad so as I’ve been stuck in this chair I’ve had too much time to think, over analyse my body and kick off my anxiety.

I just wish I could be a person who accepts it may or may not happy and deal with it. My mind just over takes

thanks again for reply back xx
