Should road repairs come with a two-year guarantee to last longer?

Anyone else noticed road repairs only last a few months lately?

Feels like the same roads are being fixed again and again.

There’s a petition calling for a 2-year guarantee on roadworks so they actually fix it properly.

It sounds like a good idea. I have signed.
I also think that these companies should be made to do a decent size of repait, some pavements near my house have seven different strips of tarmac as different companies have made narrow trenches and surfaced over them.

Petition: Require contractors to guarantee all roadworks for 2 years

I call on the UK Government to require a two-year guarantee on all roadworks by contractors and utility companies. Any defects such as sinking, cracking or potholes within that period must be repaired at their expense to protect taxpayers and improve s...

It is tough with things like potholes as they are just quick fixes now. They don't even close the road after, so cars go straight over them. I think the increase in EV cars is a problem too as they are heavier due to the battery.

Huh. If only we could get them to fix the potholes around here AT ALL.

But if they do and they last it’ll free them to fix more

Given that A LOT of the work done is contracted out, these 3rd party company's are milking their contracts for every penny whilst providing a shoddy job/service.

I’d like repairs to last 2 days!!

if councils bought pot holes repairs in house the cost would go down and quality go up. There is no incentive for companies to do a decent job.

I agree — there’s definitely an issue with incentives at the moment.

Whether it’s done in-house or contracted out, the problem is there’s very little accountability if a repair fails quickly. A guarantee would at least mean whoever does the work has to stand by it.

Even if some companies step back, it would push towards better quality overall rather than repeat fixes.
