Am looking for my house to rent and am wandering what sort of distance to be looking in. As we are looking for a church school we have more flexibility over catchments.

we are 20 mins by car from the secondary school, and approx 10 mins by car from the primary

Bronze · 16/06/2008 18:54

About 500 yards. Not sure if thats any help to you. We do have a lovely walk to school and I know we're lucky.

twinsetandpearls · 16/06/2008 18:55

I am so used to being in a town and it being a two minute car journey or 10 minute walk. Am having to retrain my brain.

I would love the 500 yards, could even afford the 500 yards (perhaps) but it seems that everyone is renting at the moment. We have missed two properties today.

sophiewd · 16/06/2008 19:03

Hi twinset, we are 4 miles from the Catholic school that we want DD to go to.

Sanctuary · 16/06/2008 19:05

25 mins away by car

bythepowerofgreyskull · 16/06/2008 19:05

we are 1 mile from our local primary school and half a mile from the village senior school. lovely walk to school here as well.

Bronze · 16/06/2008 19:07

Oh that was primary. No idea how far it is to secondary. It's in the next town which is approx. 7.5 miles.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 16/06/2008 19:12

Our catchment Primary (5-9) is 6 miles away, Middle (9-13) is at the end of my road, and Upper (13-18) is 1.5 miles away.

We do have several Primary schools closer, but they are not catchment

twinsetandpearls · 16/06/2008 19:23

25 minutes - is that to primary or secondary? seems an awful long way sanctuary.

under 5 mins by car
20 mins by foot

geekgirl · 16/06/2008 19:27

half a mile

secondary will be 10 miles away, but the bus stop is only 200 yards from our house

sophiewd · 16/06/2008 19:32

Will be 25 mins + when DD goes to middle school as have to pick up kids on the way.

Takver · 16/06/2008 19:44

2 miles now to primary (grr at the bus rules that count distances only from metalled road to metalled road - otherwise dd would get a bus).
Will be either 6 miles if DD wants english lang 2nd education or about 8 miles if she wants welsh.
Currently hoping she will pick english, as there is a regular service bus on that route, so she'd be able to get herself back from her mates houses when she's a teenager. But we've a while before we face that problem.
