... or are you all still crying in your beer?

And who are you going to support since none of the British teams are playing?

I have just put our Football CD on and the DCs and I are singing along.

Wine is cooling in the fridge for the game later. And a beer for DH

DS has a German flag on his pedal tractor

WE ARE READY!

Noone watching? The opening ceremony is suitably naff and cheesy too.

I have the opening ceremony on TV, but with no sound. There appear to be a lot of cardboard boxes with legs on the pitch.....

DeeRiguer · 07/06/2008 16:44

i take it you are in germany!
good luck you will probably win..well in with a good chance
it is getting little to very little coverage here am hoping to catch the one later on portugal v turkey
its not the same without chart and stickers though

RustyBear · 07/06/2008 16:48

I'll probably watch some of it, though I'll be outvoted till DS gets back from university - he & I are the football fans, neither DH nor DD have any interest at all.
I might support Romania, as my sister used to live there.

Kindersurprise · 07/06/2008 16:50

Strange boxes, yes. They look a bit like washing machines.

I am in Germany. We are having an Euro party with our neighbours next week. I will put up my Scottish flag and just deal with the amusing comments from our friends.

Not watching it.

DH is out with DS2 - a couple of hours drive away - but I am expecting him to return "just in time" for the 7.45 match tonight, lol.

janeite · 07/06/2008 16:51

I have got Russia in the staffroom sweepstake. I know nothing about foorball, so have no idea if that is good news or not.

Kindersurprise · 07/06/2008 16:54

I am supporting the Czech republic today as my friend is Czech.

I hope the atmosphere is as good as 2 years ago when the World Cup was staged here in Germany. That was great fun.

I know so little about football, see, that I didn't even spell it right!

Spidermama · 07/06/2008 17:02

I can't bear that no British teams are in it.

UnquietDad · 07/06/2008 17:07

I'm relieved that no British teams are in.

No England tat in the shops, no pointless updates on metatarsals, no stupid "I am thick" flags flying from cars, no pubs festooned with St George, no idiotic anthem... Just football for those that want to watch it.

It will do England (particularly) good to be reminded that, in world terms, they are not a Premiership team, and that they were lucky/over-achievers to make the final eight in the three tournaments under Sven.

Kindersurprise · 07/06/2008 17:11

Oh, that is quite harsh, UD.

Although I do admit to being irritated by all the flags on the cars. They don't tend to stay on when you go fast though. We have a count the flag game when we are on the autobahn at the moment.

DH wont have one on his car, he says they are "asozial" ie. chavvy

Well done to the Czech republic. Who is next? Portugal against Turkey. I am going to go for Portugal to win this one.

unknownrebelbang · 07/06/2008 19:49

Sooooooo predictable

DH got home at 7.30, lol.

WendyWeber · 07/06/2008 19:50

We have a sweep at work, I got Portugal!!!

(Pretty much guarantees that they will be an unexpected early loser )

notnowbernard · 07/06/2008 20:00

I couldn't possibly contemplate supporting another country other than my own!

So I am definitely still crying into my lager

I said I wouldn't watch it, but dp has put the Portugal match on so I guess I will be sucked in...

My luck in sweepstakes is scant, to say the least... last time I got Togo

Spidermama · 08/06/2008 11:21

Actually the lack of British teams is having its advantages. DHs across the county, mine included, may well get some DIY done instead.

Kindersurprise · 08/06/2008 19:42

Bumping this thread in the hope that someone somewhere will be watching the footie tonight.

sings Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit...

Don't actually know the rest of the German national anthem.

1 - 0
1 - 0
1 - 0

don't mind me, I will just sing and dance here on my own
