Is Hailsham a nice place to live?

Hello all, I am new to this group and looking to seek some advise please:)

My child and I are looking to relocate to Hailsham, we were originally thinking Eastbourne as there is far more to do there and I do have family that lives there too. I do drive so its really not a problem driving to Eastbourne to do activities and days out but I just wanted peoples honest opinions and views regarding Hailsham.

I have driven around there quite a few times now and it does look like a quiet town with not much going on. But do people find it safe and secure there? I have seen that their crimes rates are much lower than Eastbourne and other towns nearby.
One of the reasons of moving there is that the housing costs tends to be much lower than Eastbourne and you seem to get more for your money, or is there a reason its so much cheaper?

All of your honest views are much appreciated.
Thanks,
G
