Well I wasn't here for most of it, read it in amazement when I did see it; but, no, I don't think it was at all helpful, for anybody, oldies or newbies.

Search can be useful, if you know there is a relevant thread, and have a key word to look for; but if you don't know there is one (and even if you do sometimes, search doesn't always work after all), and don't have a key word, if you are new to MN and don't know how it works, why shouldn't you start your own thread?

I thought that was a very snotty and elitist post, I'm afraid, beety, however politely worded. As so many replies said, if you don't like a thread, ignore it. Certainly give a link to a related thread (if you can find one!) but even one of them might not have the right info.

I meant coddy's original one:

"(POlitely asks) is there any chance people could use archived search a bit more? as we are having a lot of new threads that are already covered at length ( baby pasta spring sot mind)"

or in other words, new people's threads are boring me, don't post something that's been asked before.

FF started this sarky thread about pasta and got 7 genuine responses.

Het up, beety? No....

Yes, lockets. Well it is for some people on it.

franch · 21/01/2005 20:35

lockets, have you seen my link below?

paolosgirl · 21/01/2005 20:36

I used to get it in Boots. It was called star pasta (I think, from memory..which gets worse!)

lou33 · 21/01/2005 20:37

Have to say Jan, that to me Coddy's post doesn't come across like that, but obviously our interpretations are different. Am sure coddy didn't mean it like that.

No, lou, I'm sure she didn't but it went that way and I think it was bound to.

Portree · 21/01/2005 20:45

Good god above, it's amazing that baby pasta can cause such a brouhaha. JanH, you speak a lot of sense. I thought that 'polite' post was completely out of order and not in keeping with the spirit of mumsnet. Thought it quite rude actually. My first ever post was about baby eczema and I was at my wits'end when I found mumsnet. Thankfully no one told me to take a hike and search the archives.

Oh and there is a Beatrix Potter range that does 2 types of baby pasta which my ds loves. Available in Waitrose.

cat82 · 21/01/2005 20:47

JanH, not to get too involved (i am a coward ) but for the record i agree with you, i thought the thread was out of order, and could have seriously knocked someones confidence if they were a new poster.

Beatrix potter pasta also available in tesco, i've seen it

lou33 · 21/01/2005 20:50

I think that coddy didn't mean anything by it, she was just trying to be helpful and it backfired. I am sure she wouldn't be deliberately horrid to anyone.Like we have said before, misinterpretation is v easy with the written word, lack of intonation...

Oh no, i didn't mean anything too harsh by it tbh....i think as always, i read it like i read every thread like that...how i'd feel if i was new here. I think i'd be upset, especialy since i wouldn't know how nice she actualy is and that it was just a request.
