Hi all hope your all well
im looking for some advice anyone with a similar issue as I can’t see my gp for another 2 weeks due to appointment space
first of all I had the implant nexaplon installed just over a year now it kinda of stopped my periods completely but probably get one every 3 months very light for 4 days tops
so I recently had my bloods done and it shows I’m low on b12 so dr prescribed me folic acid now since taking them 2 days after I started a really heavy period and has been on going for 12 days now I was just wondering probably a really silly question but can folic acids regulate periods? I’ve googled it it’s says it’s not possible but literally it only started once taking them I took one pill later then usual in the afternoon instead of the morning and thru that day my period became completely lightened until I took the folic acid and it became extremely heavy I’m sorry this is a long thread but I was just hoping some of the other mummy’s on here might of had a similar experience so I no I’m not going crazy 🤪 xx
thanks in advance for any replies xx

Low B12 can cause menstrual problems or the absence of menstruation.
If you’re low on b12, have they prescribed that as well as folate?

it’s likely coincidental as 2 tablets won’t have affected your folate levels so soon.

Have you taken a pregnancy test, just in case?

Hi thanks for reply I’ve done a pregnancy test it’s been negative they only prescribed me folic acid 5mg tablets for a 3 month course to try bring my b12 up they said that should do the trick but literally as soon as I started them within 2 days my period started the last one before that was 3 months ago but a lot shorter and lighter I was told nexaplon implant can sometimes stop periods or make them not so regular hence why I thought nothing of it so pregnancy tested each month to be sure but it seems to be when I take the folic acid it gets heavier but not sure as to why?
I’ve debated to stop taking them but if my levels are as low as they said I also need to raise them hence why I’m waiting to see my gp

my bloods were taken due to regular numbness in hands and feet and to test for diabetes plus iron levels ect but only b12 came up which they considered it to be very low x
