I pretty much hate the newspapers, tv news and magazines as well. What's good in the media?

I like their Sunday programmes when I am pottling about in the kitchen pretending to be Felicity Kendall. The food programme is very good.

radio 4. the economist. political journals. special interest magazines, e.g. food, gardening, nudist sky diving

btw - if you hate the mc "haves" slant of the grauniad - don't go anywhere near the telegraph!

bossykate · 02/06/2008 17:08

also, don't think there is anything wrong with getting news from the web.

International Herald Tribune - it's mainly just news. A lot of US politics too as it's the international version of New York Times.

I never get it when people say Radio 4 is middle class. Radio 4 has a huge variety of thought provoking programmes aim at thinking people, why is that middle class?

Magazine wise I like the Economist for news. Also Prospect.

Yes, More4 is all the good stuff on C4 -(e.g. on fiction) West Wing,Studio 60, all the cutting edge docs etc. They have The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as well.
Their news is on at 8.30 and seems much less sensationalist than the others ime

At the risk of sounding somewhat older than my 35 years, the Sunday papers are now universally terrible. They used to carry not only good editorials and breaking news but really good, many-months-in-the-making investigative reporting (e.g. on defence, business etc) which they would follow up on for several months. Now they just re-hash the weeks news and pad it out with flimsy crap about 'living' which seems to consist about half of advertorials and classifieds.

The Guardian Weekly is better IMO than the grauniad proper - it just has the news, plus sections from Le Monde & the Washington Post, and not all the cack 'lifestyle' features.
