Social Housing: 1st in line on bidding

Hi, if you were 1st in line on bidding for 2 properties on your banding is it likely to be offered these? I’ve been on banding since 2022 and not received a property yet - I know they assess each case differently but I’m just wondering the likelihood and what other people’s number in queue was = what their outcome was. I understand it also depends on whether you are still at 1 on the closing of bidding.

I’m just posting to bump you up, no idea but I guess there are many variables.

Hope you get lucky soon OP. Have you been in temporary housing since 2022?

Hi, Im a housing officer for my LA. At the close of the advert cycle if you remain in position 1 then yes you should be offered the property. The only exception to this is if there are adaptations you require and an occupation therapist confirms that the property is not suitable or if there is a local lettings policy in place and you do not meet the criteria (but this would have been stated in the advert).

Good luck I viewed a council property last week I was 2nd place. So back to bidding for me.
Is it Locata you used to bid?
If it is the status box might change to offered to you.
Example from Google.

@Iwilldoitnowinaminutemam Thanks! I’ve heard others say it doesn’t matter what position you are in my area as long as it’s top ten, fingers crossed though!

@Dreamhigh hmm I don’t think we use that in my LA, it just tells you your position up until the advert closes I believe x

Ours don't tell us a position until bidding has closed.
I'm also another in unsuitable acccomadation due to my children's medical needs I'm in the top band and been bidding for 3 years.

Ew3 · 15/09/2025 10:09

@Dreamhigh fingers crossed for you and your family!

We are elderly, DH is 80, and want to move into retirement housing, such as a flat for over 60s. Our house and garden are getting too much to manage, and we both have health issues. But we are home owners, so have little chance of renting.

If we sold our home, it might raise enough to buy a flat in a retirement block, but our income wouldn't be enough to pay the fees on top. Catch 22.
