Going overboard with gifts for new Mum?

Hi all,

My best friend is having a little girl in the autumn. I have already got gifts for baby once she arrives. I am also putting together a gift bag for my friend, items just for her and not baby related.

In my friend’s gift bag there is;
-A set of new buttery soft pyjamas
-A candle
-Her favourite chocolates
-A canister of Whittard’s tea
-A set of skincare miniatures

I picked these items as I know she’ll like them, also I feel it is nice to get a new Mum a gift that isn’t related to baby. I have told a few people (her family and in laws) that I am putting together a gift for her. Though they don’t know what. A couple of people have made a few comments that I shouldn’t be buying for my friend. I should only be buying for the baby and my friend cannot expect gifts now that she is becoming a Mum. She is never expectant of gifts anyhow.

These few comments have made me doubt myself that I am doing the right thing for my friend. Should I go forward with these gifts or should I ignore these comments from her family (mainly her in laws)?

Thanks!

Oh come on, seriously? 🙄

Ignore them. It's a nice thing to do. Of course she shouldn't "expect" that, but there is nothing wrong with treating your best friend if you can afford it and it won't embarass her (ie it's in line with how you normally treat each other)

I bought my DF gifts when she had her first including a body lotion that I knew she liked but wouldn’t buy herself. Years later she says it still reminds her of her DC1 being tiny.

It’s a bit over the top but very lovely.
I suspect her in-laws are objecting because now they’ll have to up their game 🤣
You’re a lovely friend.
