Laundry smells of soap... how do I get rid of the smell...

Well my mum has given me 2 sets of sheets which she has washed herself and they STINK of washing powder.... I have use them but after 3 days decided it was too nauseous... so today I washed the sheets again in water only,.... it still smells..... any idea?

WHAT on earth did she use? I usually quite like the smell and it doesn't seem to last long enough!

How about another full-length wash, this time with a small amount of your own soap, or just plain soda crystals?

If it's not your own brand, it can be really unpleasant, can't it?! I use Fairy and love it, but Ariel...makes me heave!
