Baby sleeps too little

My 14 month old is living off 9 hours of sleep in total during 24 hours. I keep reading that a baby this age needs 12-14 hours of sleep and I am getting extremly worried. He basically sleep 8 hours during night from 11/12pm to 7/8 am. Then he will sleep one hour in the afternoon, often from 1pm - 2pm. I have tried putting him to bed earlier at night but he wakes up after an hour and treats it as a nap and stays up until 1am instead, so a late bedtime is the only way to get him to sleep for a longer time without waking up. He is also an extremly light sleeper and will wake up from anything. He can’t sleep by himself so someone needs to lay in bed next to him at all times day and night. If you leave the bed, he wakes up. I am exhausted so I can’t imagine how exhausted he must be but he just won’t go to bed earlier or sleep longer no matter what I do. The only thing that helps though if you want him to nap is to take him on a ride in the car which I can’t do every day. Does anyone have any experience from a baby sleeping way below what’s recommended for their age?

Mine DD was like that and she is fine.
Some children sleep less.
Unless he is hysterical tired all day jist let him be.

Yeah my middle one didn’t sleep as much as the other two.
Much like you describe, he was just having one decent lunchtime nap from quite a young age…..but he definitely wasn’t sleeping a solid 8 hours at night time 😂🫣 He was up at least twice a night until he was 4.
He’s also always been a really early riser - still is. I’ve always joked that I could keep that boy awake until midnight and he’d still be up for the day, raring to go at 5am.
He’s always been happy during the day, never seemed tired or grumpy with just the one lunchtime nap. I guess he just needed less sleep than most babies!

This sounds exhausting for you and I know what it’s like as I was in a similar boat. Have you thought about using a sleep consultant? I used one and she really helped us sort everything out.
