Writing a children's book - any tips on how to get it published/get an illustrator?

Instead of doing proper work today, I wrote a children's book. (it would be a picture book - so not reams and reams of text).

I know the children's book market is very saturated, but wondered if anyone had any tips on what to do next. The book I wrote today obviously needs to be tweaked and refined. I can see it being part of a series that all feature the same two characters - and I have ideas for others.

I can't draw to save my life but wondered whether the next step is to send the book with ideas for others (or even write others and send in a few) to publishers or whether you're supposed to go to an agent first. And whether you need to find an illustrator first or if that's something a publishing house would do if they liked the concept.

Anyone done this before? Thanks in advance
