Hi, does anyone have a Direct Line home insurance policy booklet from [ 2014-2022]? I’m trying to check something about the cover they used to offer. I always had the highest level of cover, so if anyone has an old ‘Maxi’ policy or similar, I’d really appreciate it!

Not sure I can dig out the policy booklet but ours has just renewed, they only increased by £6 per annum, DH as he always does, phoned to see if we had the best deal price wise, to be told, we have a legacy policy that includes world wide travel and a host of other things they no longer offer, we opted to stay with them, as claims are normally handled very well, although we have only ever had to claim through car insurance.

@EffinMagicFairy thanks I have always gone for the highest cover they have for maximum protection because I figured it is better to be fully protected than not having enough cover but would appreciate it if you can dig out the policy booklet please

@Soaringskylarkdeeply grateful for this thanks for sending the pictures. I have. See. Exactly what I am looking for. Just checking, is this is 2018? I wonder how often they device their policies. I wonder if this policy also applies to 2022

It was in my Insurance Folder next to my 2018 Renewal Notice so I am assuming 2018.

If you look at the Booklet reference it is HM158NT 0818, I suspect that the 0818 refers to 2018.

I also have a Policy Book reference HM158 NT 0521. Presumably 2021.

Is there anything specific you need from that?

teethtoothclean · 06/04/2025 22:20

Oh wow, @Soaringskylark you are a life saver I will need same thing pls - the legal protection section too please if you don’t mind - thank you.

Just for your info I think these Policy Booklets are available online through the DL site. I don’t think they automatically issue them but obviously you are entitled to see the relevant Policy information for the year in question.

I hope you manage to sort your issue.

Thank you very very much thanks again

Sorry, but I am away at the moment so not able to access my old policy documents.

But, I have already sent you all the pages relating to Legal Expense cover.

If they are not giving you what you need, I think you will find all the old Policy documents through your online account.

Failing that, give them a ring. If you have paid for Insurance I am pretty certain you have a legal right to the details of the Policy you have paid for.

teethtoothclean · 21/04/2025 11:18

@Soaringskylark Thanks so much for getting back to me—I really appreciate you taking the time to send over what you could.

The reason I asked on here is because, unfortunately, I’ve had issues with Direct Line in the past (and some ongoing ones) where I was told my policy had ended, only to later find premium payments still being taken from my account almost a year after that.

Because of that experience, I’m quite hesitant to rely solely on what they tell me. I’d feel much more confident comparing it to an old policy booklet from around that time myself, and then seeing what they say—especially as I’ve caught them out giving incorrect information more than once already.

I completely understand that you’re away at the moment, and I’m really grateful for all the help you’ve given so far.

I can understand your frustration.

I couldn’t understand what the line in your previous message was saying.

I am sure o could exactly what I am looking for but just to be sure pls pls can you check what it says about legal expense cover for loans and mortgages pls? Are the legal expenses covered or not pls’

Because of the typos I could read it several ways.

Are you saying the extracts I sent you, have answered your question? Or not?

FWIW I have sent you all the Legal Expenses pages from each Policy Booklet. There is nothing more.

I am pretty sure you are entitled to ask for a copy of the Policy Booklet for the year you held Insurance with DL and they are obliged to provide it.

If they don’y you might have recourse to the Ombudsman.

teethtoothclean · 21/04/2025 15:11

Sorry it was not clear but I was saying

I’m pretty sure I saw exactly what I’m looking for, but just to be certain — could you please double-check what it says about legal expenses cover for loans and mortgages? Are legal expenses for these types of matters covered or not?

OP posts:
teethtoothclean · 21/04/2025 15:11

Thank you for your response, and apologies for the typos in my earlier message — I was trying to say that while I believe I’ve seen what I was looking for, I wanted to double-check specifically what the policy says about legal expense cover for loans and mortgages.

I do understand that I can request the information directly from Direct Line, and that they are obliged to provide it. However, my concern is based on previous experience — they’ve already provided incorrect information about my policy in the past, which makes it difficult for me to trust that they’ll send me the correct or complete documents now.

That’s why I’m trying to do my own independent research, to ensure I’m relying on accurate and full information. I really appreciate your help

Makes more sense,

but ……. I have sent you all the Legal Expenses pages. There wasn’t anything else.

Good luck with resolving your query
