where in the car should they sit

Can anyone tell me where in the car a five year old is allowed to sit, my son-in-law insits its ok for GD to sit in front seat of the car in her booster seat, this I'm not so sure of as I alway's thought they had to sit in the back of the car until a certain age.

What always made me laugh was the sign in our old Mondeo, that stated there was a danger of death if you put a baby in a rear-facing child seat in the drivers seat - because of the airbag!

my other sister has a 2 door vauxhall frontera and icannot get my kids in the back at all. they are just too heavey or i'm too pregnant, but its really awkward.

did have a 3 door metro for a while, and found getting the kids in and out of there was easier than my sisters car.

am looking at a small car for myself, but want 5 doors, so i can get the kids in and out easily.
