Getting a garden playhouse. I thought it would be as simple as leveling out the grass area it's going on, putting down slabs thrn the house on top. But no DH wants to lay down beams put in concerete posts etc etc...aaargh, why do men have to make life harder for themselves? I see it as an excuse to play on a project and yet again spend no time with his kids or help me out on weekends!!!.

Anyway what is yours on? Does it need to be that complicated??

TIA

Exactly what you said first, we levelled out grass/soil, put down paving slabs and house went on top - jobs a good'un

Erm, flatten area, lay weedproof membrane, place 5 (or more depending on size of house) beams of wood (3"x3" gateposts are quite a cost effective way of doing it and pre treated with preservative.) so that the run the opposite way to the supports under the floor iyswim.

Place playhouse on top! Voila.

If you look on the Tesco site, they have premade playhouse bases in various sizes but don't know if you can purchase them without playhouse.

flattened earth - put paving slabs down, put playhouse on top.

We're building one just now. We did put down a concrete base first. Something about it lasting much longer with a proper base...

Nannyjo - suggest the kids to "help" him..mixing concrete etc..he'll soon change his mid and go for your easy option.

My DH is a builder by the way and ours has sat for years on some slabs on grass no problem. Tell him to put that in his pipe and smoke it!

Oh, and a layer of dpc too.

Blimey Cod, are you doing quality control today?

witchandchips · 08/05/2008 16:58

we've laid beams, secured them with concrete and then filled them up with limestone and then gravel. Very big operation involving lots of trips to B&Q. Ds was happy helping so this not an issue BUT numbskulls forgot to think about which way round it should go. Door will now face a bed and not into the rest of the garden!
