Do you think your dreams mean something or are they just random?

As I have had a series of very disturbing dreams over the past week all with a similar theme and it is unsettling me.

I know my medication causes quite vivid dreams so the power of them is not surprising me but the topic is.

Is it something you're worrying about?

dividedself · 04/05/2008 12:06

Do you mean as in they could predict somthing or on that they may be telling you something about a situation?

I think they are a way of processing info about things we are experiencing in our lives - a bit like role play iyswim so that we can cope with what is happening or what is about to come. They are like emotional 'practise'.

god i hope not i was living with sven goran ericson last night

They start off with very very violent situations with the children that I teach. I end up on the run to avoid this violence , and as I am moving away I can see this.

They then get bizarre but very sexual with overtones of violence. Last night I was in a very compromising situation with Muhammad Al Fayed and Sinitta which is funny but it was also very disturbing.

I don't belive they are predicting anything ( I hope not) but have always seen them as a form of emotional release.

I hope not too - last night I dreamed that I'd had my baby but couldn't remember a thing about the birth, at all - one minute I was pregnant, the next I had a tiny boy in my arms (ok, maybe that part was okay!). Next thing I know, I'm in a simulated house of horrors where every room is themed to a different fictional or real serial killer - everyone else was having a great time, like they were at Madame Tussaud's or something, whereas I was terrified and couldn't wait to get out of there. Then my baby disappeared, Madeleine McCann-style, with no explanation, and we were left to try and get over it while everyone else got on with their lives

Umm, sorry, just had to get that off my chest. In answer to the OP, I don't think dreams mean anything as such, but like dividedself I do believe they're a way of processing information, emotion and experiences that the brain has stored.

Are you worrying about work? I used to dream about the kids when I was f/t and stressed.

twinsetandpearls · 04/05/2008 12:16

Am not worrying about work particularly although it does dominate my life.

Psychotherapists are always very interested in dreams, and they help patients 'interpret' them - don't think most dreams are seen as literal.
