is it red = positive black = negative?
Where do you put the clips? positive to positive? and clipped to what?

My neighbour has just tried helping, bless him, but I dont think he knew what he was doing.

Yes to both.

Red = positive, black = negative.

clip positive sign on his battery onto positive on yours. ditto negatives

then start the other car and let it run for a while before starting yours.

The stumpy things on the battery you attach the leads to will have + or - on them somewhere. You can't do anything fatal by puttting them on the wrong ones, if nothing happens just swap them over.

boudoricca sounds like she knows what she's talking about!

ah, he did not let the other engine run enough I guess then. In fact to start with, he did not even start the other car at the beginning!

Oh what a shame. They have just gone out . Running away from me I expect.

Sounds like I knew more about it than him . Bugger, wanted to meet DH from work at 10:30am for a cuppa.

Thanks for help tho, I know how to do it now!

If you can get the car on a slope you should be able to jump start it??

veryconfuseddotcom · 01/05/2008 10:49

thanks B. I shall wait for my friend with better jump leads and a bit more time to wait for the engine to run! No rush.Turns out DH could not stop for a break anyway
