Ok, so you may not be the perfect parents (who is ?!) But you are doing the best thing in getting help.

Hi Carla, Ads worked for me but i didn't have the added probelm of alcoholism. However I worked in a rehab for 4 years and quite a few of the residents there either came in on ads or got put on them while they were with us and they seemed to help. Good luck for tommorrow - I know how scary it is. If you ever want a chat you can cat me. I may not have been through this myself but i learnt loads working in the rehab so I do understand a lot of what you are going through. {{{hugs}}} I'll be thinking of you tommorrow.

carla ...never think your kids are unlucky to have you, you are making the huge step of doing something about this, you know you have a problem and want to deal with it,in my opinion theyre very lucky to have a mum who loves them enough to admit her problems and is doing something about it.

Blossomhill · 09/01/2005 20:09

Carla just wanted to say you are not alone as tomorrow I am having my first session of counselling. I feel really nervous too! I am on ad's but just need to talk to someone so gp referred me. Thinking of you tomorrow and well done for taking that step! (((xxx)))

Carla you are taking a positive step, well done. ADs combined with counselling worked for me, ask your GP about both. It's also warming to know that a MNer helped you take this step. It's not such a bad place after all! (not that I ever thought it was)

MrsSteg · 09/01/2005 20:33

Carla, IIRC you have a double appointment, so you have plenty of time to tell the doctor everything. Write it all down before you go, if it would help you to think more clearly. The doctor will have heard it all before, she won't judge you, but you have to tell her everything so that she can help you. If you feel that depression is part of the problem, then tell her that too, and ask for help. I take ads, and although I had a few side effects at the start, they settled down really quickly, and I feel a lot more balanced now. I know it's hard, but you need to be really honest with her so that she can help you fully.

Hugs for tomorrow, be strong.

MrsSteg · 09/01/2005 21:29

Carla, are you still there? Are you OK?

soapbox · 09/01/2005 21:42

Carla - good luck my dear! This will hopefully be the start of a new path for you and I wish you all the best!

MrsSteg · 10/01/2005 09:18

Hugs for this morning Carla xx

Thank you all SO SO much. I've now got the numbers of several psychologists, and a follow up appointment with GP next week. NO AD's till then, though You're all really special, but WWB you know how very special you are to me.

Just got to make it through the week ....

Hi Carla,

I've posted before on your other thread. Just sending best wishes and glad that it went well for you this morning.

This is the beginning of a positive journey which will eventually lead to you having your drinking within your control. Go for it girl.

Best wishes

Mandy

I put a long post on here last night, carla - and MN crashed. It's not here so it must have disappeared into the ether. Just wanted to say well done for taking that huge step of admitting you need some help. I'm glad your appointment had a positive outcome - and you know MN will be here for you every step of the way.

Carla · 10/01/2005 14:19

Thanks MM!
