My 3 yr old son needs shoes more often than every 6 months. He has gone up 2 full sizes - a half size at a time - in the last year. It's bloody expensive, isn't it?

Ha, sympathies. I have just bought dd2 Doodles as she has grown out of two pairs of shoes in 4 mths each . She is 3 in June and already an 8. It is not just the shop conning me either. It is me noticing her toes are at the end. We have a great Clarks who sent me away three times with dd1 when I was trying to get her new trainers as the ones I had for her still fitted fine.

You're getting off lightly, biglips! Dd was going up a size about every three or four months at that age. She's nearly 7 now and still has to have new shoes every few months.

How on earth does anyone make children's shoes last a year? Even if the size stays the same, they get completely trashed within a few weeks!

Dd aged 7 has worn the same pair of boots and trainers since October 2006

But last week told me the trainers are rubbing now.

Ds (just3) normally gets a new pair every 4 months or so - biggest gap 6mo, smallest 8wks - but I'm not sure that the current pair will last that long - not quite sure what he's been doing, but they are going to come apart at the toes soon! He was in an 8.5 about 10wks ago.

impressed that it's only every 6 months. DS1 went through a phase of growing out of them every 6 weeks or so

misdee · 29/04/2008 16:51

dd2 did that. but then dd1 feet didnt grow for ages, then went up a size and half in a couple of months.

dd3 first shoes were a 2. now she is a size 7 at 3years old.

Every 6 months is fairly normal IMO. TBH it sounds like you should be changing them more often if she is going up a full size every time.

Shhhh · 29/04/2008 19:21

I thought this was normal...in fact I thought they may change sooner than that..? Isn't that why they say get them measured every 6 weeks..?

Shhhh · 29/04/2008 19:21

sorry, just read bozza's reply
