What is the "minimum" number of godparents you need..?

DS due to get christened next month and my sister and her dh have just told me that they "don't feel they can be his godparents". Neither are religious and feel they shouldn't be given this role...

Now we just have 2. Is this ok or do we need more..?

My ds has two - it's quality not quantity that counts!

Shhhh · 24/04/2008 14:13

thing is .....one will be me .

although I guess the quality will be superb. .!

Hoonette · 24/04/2008 14:15

I must admit I thought you only needed one. Although obviously the more the merrier!

Shhhh · 24/04/2008 14:15

seriously TR...?

DH and I actually wanted maybe just me or noone as the gp's for dd were a waste of time imo and although we wanted ds christened we didn't really want gp's....

none of ym children have been christened so I'm the wrong person to ask

sorry

The kids know who are the most special people to me and them though and they would have been godparents if they had any

Boy - usually 2 men and 1 woamn
Girl - 2 women and 1 man

As per the C of E church they should be baptised and confirmed, but in practice the requirement for confirmation is relaxed...

A parent can be a godparent provided that the child has at least one other godparent.

This is the from the bumpf I got when I wanted to get my DD baptised

Nagapie · 24/04/2008 14:21

Sorry - woman not woamn

From not fron and surplus 'the'

I don't think parents are supposed to be godparents to their own children, though I could be wrong

Have you got any good friends you could ask?

My children have got 2 each - one male, one female.

castille · 24/04/2008 14:22

Ah Nagapie I am proved wrong! I'll shut up.

Shhhh · 24/04/2008 14:27

nagapie, thanks for that.
castille, you can beyour own childs gp. I am dd's as none of the other 3 gp's were confirmed and I am....

Its the same with ds...thing is we do have "friends" BUT tbh we seem to be drifting apart from each other....I also feel they are not as comitted gp's as I thought they would be.

Personally I also feel gp's is not a necessary role as ime/imo my parents/il's and close family are there for my kids iykwim...Want them christened however.
