Have central eco lightbulbs in each room, plus the odd table lamp. Am fed up with living in the gloom. Anyone have any good advice about how to improve lighting design?

Get a halogen task light. Makes a huge difference the light is whiter and brighter and you can see the newspaper.

Also, I know this sounds daft, but when did you last clean your lampshades, up to 40% of light can be lost through dust build up (don't wipe hot bulbs though).

Lampshades are another problem. They are cleanish but boring. Have no idea about interior design.

Well you can get cheap lighting from Ikea which is pretty good. Personally I have a DAR factory shop down the road so we go there.

This is why I don't have eco bulbs. They are rubbish!!
