Living in the ghetto - what to do??

I am writing this out of despair as I have over thought this topic for far too long and still have no real solutions.

I have been living in my area for over 10 years and whilst it is a lovely property the area is rough - full of crime, poverty, and lots of mentally ill residents. There is a house that provides "assisted living" around the corner from me.
Downstairs neighbour is also a complete bully and nightmare and we have had stern words with each other already.

Recently I have been harassed by two men who live next door to me either side. Trying to talk to me or intimidate me when in the street. I cannot wait to sell and move elsewhere however I cannot afford to do so yet. Is there anyone else who hates where they live?? What did you do?

what are your reasons for not moving?

Scaredymaclaredy · 26/09/2024 16:49

oh sorry you said very clearly!

Oh I totally sympathise with you OP.

I've had lots of trouble where I live - I bought the house because I wanted a big garden and although I knew it's not a " well off " area I thought it was decent. But I've had so much trouble with vandalism and harassment I just don't want to stay here any more. The difference in my situation from yours is my problems have been with the children and youths, not adults. I've found the children and youths really frightening so I can only imagine how bad it is for you in your situation.

I've had police involvement in my situation but if you were to involve the police re the harassment you are getting from your neighbours do you fear it will make your situation worse? I know that is always a possibility. If they are council tenants then you could talk to the council about their behaviour. But again it's the fear of making yourself more vulnerable.

I want to move but ATM too unwell physically and mentally to even think sensibly about options.

So sending sympathy but unfortunately not really any helpful suggestions.

@Windrainandsnow I am so sorry to hear about your situ! Yes you are correct I do not want to involve the police as I think it would get worse and due to the very very close proximity I feel truely trapped! Your unwell state maybe due to your environment - if you can move then do it!! I have considered downsizing just to get away from this area but even that is still not possible anytime soon due to funds. I stay inside a lot bcse of this and if I do venture out it is early in the morning when I know they will not be hangin out on the street. What a life!!
