Re designing Grandmothers jewellery

I was wondering if anyone can help me. My Grandmother wanted me to have a very special necklace of hers when she died. It was my Great Grandmothers and she inherited it when her mother passed away. It was very special to her so I am truly honoured she chose me to have this necklace.
However, I have not yet worn the necklace as it is a gold cross. I am not religious and I simply do not feel comfortable wearing a gold cross in my day to day life for a few reasons.
Therefore, I'm thinking of redesigning this necklace into something I can wear every day like my Gran did. I want it to be continued to be passed down in my family and not sit in my jewellery box gathering dust.

I have asked my Mom and she understands my reasons for wanting to redesign the necklace. What are your thoughts?
If you do have any suggestions please let me know too! TIA. X

Jewellery is meant to be worn! Even if you leave it as a family heirloom, it won't mean anything to the recipient if the have no memory of you wearing it, so I would say get it altered

I've used these people a few times , they're great www.tomfrenchjewellery.co.uk/services/bespoke-jewellery/
