Hi guys,

After having two children of my own and never coming across a community nursery nurse during that time (apart from the occasional one sitting in the corner of the baby clinic trying to coax small chidlren over) I recently did a placement for uni with the local health visitors, but spent most of the time working with the community nursery nurses. And what a fantastic job they do!!
What I want to know is, what is the actual role of the community nursery nurse? This wasn't overly clear during my placement. And also, i'd love to hear from some HVs too, i'd love a description of your job.
What I also need to know is, how both of those jobs fit in with the rest of primary health care, and what other professionals do you work with?

Keep up the good work!!!

I had a community nurse visit me after the birth of my DS. The midwife visited me on the 1st and 2nd day and then the nursery nurse took over, she did exactly the same as the midwife and HV- weighing, feeding advice etc.
I'm a nursery nurse myself so I too was interested in her role so questioned her a bit, she herself had 5 children so I think that they respected her considerable experience!
She also ran the weaning advice group for our area as well as the 'first time parents' group which met weekly.

She was fab!
