Someone from Mumsnet who had added me to their msn sent me a file through msn this morning. As I have recieved photos from them before I trusted it and opened it. It has completely wiped my hard drive and wrecked my computer. DP relies on the net at home to help with his work so I had to try to fix it. It's just cost me every penny I had saved for his 40th birthday on Saturday, and it's still not fixed.
If you sent this to me on purpose I hope you are happy. Thanks a lot.

yup his 40th. It's not so bad for him though as he didnt know what i had planned. I was just disappointed because for weeks he's been moping about saying we cant do anything and i've been secretly smug!!! I've just warned everyone i can think of about the virus - it seems to be a nasty one that passes itself round the more messages you send - I was really worried as I was talking to a few people at the time I got it but they have said they're ok....phew!!!!!

do you think i should start a thread about the virus thats more obvious than my title for this thread?? lol Might help someone else who doesn't know it can be done that way....

I was thinking about a way of doing it still. havent come up with a plan yet though!! I don't really want to borrow it because I wouldn't be able to pay it back for a month or so. I'm getting used to the idea that its not going to happen though now. I was angry yesterday because i thought it was deliberate - now I thnkit's my own fault for opening the file and not being well enough protected!!!!

It's still rotten luck, Zephyr, whichever way you look at it

Can you perhaps still get the babysitting and cook a special meal at home with a nice bottle of wine or two?

CarrieG · 06/01/2005 13:14

Would the £100 you had to spend on the pc cover it? Maybe a few of us could pop a tenner or £20 in the post to you & it'd be there for Saturday?

I'd be happy to wait a month or so to get it back...knowing me I'd forget all about it & then it'd be a nice surprise! Hope you aren't offended by the suggestion - it's just that I've been in similar circumstances & I know how depressing it is not to be able to do something you've planned because of an unforeseen disaster...

Zephyrcat · 06/01/2005 13:15

Now you mention it there isnt anyone I could ask anyway!!! He doesnt know that i paid to get it fixed - he hasnt even noticed that the tower is slightly different lol I felt a bit cruel having to say 'The computer broke and i managed to get someone to look at it with money i saved to take you out but you cant go now' lol I know he'll appreciate me doing it. I might tell him after his birthday so he cant get miserable about it!!!

I would be happy to donate a tenner to the cause Although I'd prefer to send a cheque rather than cash which might cause problems in terms of it being there in time. (Miss Safety, me, can you tell?!!)

CAT me Zephyr.

ZC sorry to hear this - MSN messanger is notoriously flaky and it is dead easy to hijack it to send files - its one reason I avoid it like the plague...- so don't think it was deliberately.......get some antivrius software asap

CarrieG · 06/01/2005 13:26

I can put a tenner in the post this afternoon if it would help Zephyr - just send me your address? My email's carriesmith11 [at] hotmail [dot] com. You'd be very welcome!

Zephyrcat · 06/01/2005 13:28

You are all such superstars. Are you all sure about doing this? I'm just looking on the calender to work out how quickly i can sent it back to you....

CarrieG · 06/01/2005 13:34

Not a problem - just need your address in the next hour or so because I'm off out to baby clinic & will be passing the post box!
