for 4, to tenerife/costa del sol or portugal. it is to include a self catering apartment that can sleep 6 and flight.

we have to pay airport taxes however and a supplement of £29 pp (for costs???)

he apparently won it for filling in an online survey that he has no recollection of doing, altho he admits that he does indeed do some occasionally.

oh, and to have 'qualified' for the prize we have to be homeowners and earn more that 25k per year.

also, to claim our prize we have to go to a presentation in portsmouth on a weds or sunday for 2hrs, children not welcome.......

I pointed out that as we have five children would it be possible to have a bigger apartment......she said "sorry that isn;t possible......maybe if one is old enough you can leave them at home".....

now, if this is a genuine win, it would include the entire family, or at least, if not covering us all as we are a large family, it would have a way to include us all...????

am I right in thinking that this is all a big con set up by a time-share company and when we go we will sign half our lives away and not get a holiday as we can no longer afford the taxes and supplements as they have bled us dry???

yes.

WanderingTrolley · 15/04/2008 10:45

It is a big con set up by a timeshare company, or one of those elaborate ruses the police use to entrap criminals they can't find.

Is he on the run?!

Tutter · 15/04/2008 10:45

yes

Uriel · 15/04/2008 10:46

Sounds like it to me.

I won the lottery last week apparently. All I had to do is send in my bank details ...

Psychomum5 · 15/04/2008 10:46

lol WT.....nope.....I don;t think my DH is on the run.

unless of course he has a secret wife somewhere he failed to tell me about

It's a big con - run away, run away!

CaptainKarvol · 15/04/2008 10:47

try googling the holiday company / competition company name. I did when I won one of these and yes, they were a (legit but hard sell) timeshare operation. They went away when I mentioned google

Joash · 15/04/2008 10:48

CON!!!!

saltire · 15/04/2008 10:49

Oh yes we had this a couple of years ago. Wanted us to go to a 3 hour presentation in perth. DH looked them up on the internet and found lots of negative comments about them. They couldn't tell us which competition I was supposed to ahve entered though
They got really arsey with us and kept calling up denying that it was a con/timeshare/etc. In the ned DH threatened them with the police

Psychomum5 · 15/04/2008 10:50

well.....I am not planning on going as I am suspicious, but DH seemed keen, as did the children!!! (which they would as they have no reason to be suspicious of people conning us).

I was the one that rang back and spoke to the 'claim line person', and TBH, it sounds like a huge con to me.......just wanted to be sure tho

I got a phonecall last week like this and my dh said he had filled in an online survey.
It is a big con, so just tell them to bugger off.

lazarou · 15/04/2008 10:52

And yes, they give you a special number to ring and make it sound all official and exciting, but they are the only ones that benefit.

Psychomum5 · 15/04/2008 10:55

and I'll bet that the phone call cos t me too.

it did tell me while I was on hold that it was a free line tho, so maybe I am just ultra suspicious today.....

ho hum.......no exciting holiday for us then this year.

BUT we do get to keep our lives intact and not signed away

hippipotami · 15/04/2008 10:58

was the phonecall an automated voicemail type message? If so, we had that call last week too.
I hung up half way through the message.

lazarou · 15/04/2008 11:03

I keep getting those letters through the post from catalogues saying that I have definitely won a prize and to send the form back in the envelope, but then the smallprint says on condition of being accepted for a credit account with them. It's because I've got a next account. That's a complete rip off as well.

Psychomum5 · 15/04/2008 11:11

I feel for the people who get these calls and genuinely beleive them and jump thro all the hoops to get the holiday only realsing after they have been conned.

My suspicions rose when thye said we had to go for a presentation and when they also told me the other costs involved......and all that was before I asked her about the fact that we had a large family.

it was when she spouted off about leaving one of our children behind tho that I felt the need to start screaming........( I didn;t, well, not at her, I hung up and then ranted).

DH has just rung me from work to tell me that they have rung him again to ask why we weren;t sounding interested in the 'fantastic' holiday. when he mentioned that we had FIVE kiddies, they said that families with disabilities are not catered for........

SINCE WHEN IS FIVE KIDDIES COUNTED AS A DISABILITY....

MrsMattie · 15/04/2008 11:12

CON. I had exactly the same phonecall a couple of months ago. he said to claim my prize I needed to call another number. I never bothered. I don't remember entering a competition, so how the feck could I have won anything?

Hallgerda · 15/04/2008 11:18

Was it Club la Costa by any chance?

This may interest you

Psychomum5 · 15/04/2008 11:37

it is called 'exclusive living' according to DH.....

OP posts:
2icklepickles · 15/04/2008 16:50

haha - we 'WON' this yesterday too!!!!! and ours was club la costa ...or clc as they stated!!

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 15/04/2008 16:58

I know someonw who got this through Diamond Resorts - they had a free week in Tenerife.

Yes the company tried to sell them a timeshare and they had to attend a presentation and they had to pay for their own flights. But they think its fab and are now conning the timeshare company by getting free holidays all over the place to look at other timeshare complexes before they make their mind up.

flossie64 · 15/04/2008 17:15

I won one of these too. Mine was club la costa, do a search through times online they will tell you all the horror stories.
Nine months on and they still phone trying to persuade me to go on the trip.
