There will be chicken/ beef skewers and salmon fillets - you could have a combination of those with seaweed salad and edamame beans/mixed vegetables

Sashimi
Miso soup
any kind of rice bowl meal and leave the rice
any kind of noodle soup and leave the noodles

Sashimi
Stir fried veggies are usually done in soy sauce and garlic so pretty safe.
Yes to yakitori sticks
My place does a delicious salmon in soy sauce.
Unfortunately most of it is rice based though. Japanese can be hard.

If you know where you are going could you post the menu?

Looks like all the mains are sushi with rice or rice bowls so stick to sashimi and the appetizers. Satay sticks, yakitori, miso, salmon tataki looks good, the Nasu dengaku is a miso glazed aubergine which is usually fine. Edamame beans are 10g per 100g so lower carb but depends how strict you want to be.

Oh kimchi as well. Fermented too as a bonus.

If they do an all la cart menu or in house stuff that isn't on the website then I recommend stirfried veggies. yasai itame in Japanese. Usually Chinese leaf, broccoli etc in soy and garlic, it's my favourite. They would probably be happy to do it for you anyway if not on the menu.

Just thought I'd let you know that I had stir fried vegetables, and a delicious salmon in garlic and soy sauce, and the aubergine. All of it was absolutely delicious and very filling. Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions. You'd think that after doing low carb for 25 years, I'd know what is safe or not. Everyday is a school day. Happy Low Carbing everyone x
