What can I do about my Pissy Pussy? (not rude! cat related!)

My cat is 19 years old and over the past few months has been making pipi and caca all over the hall floor. Fortunately it is tiled, but I have been washing the floor several times a day. I took Pussy to the vet a few weeks ago, and he said it is dementia, she is the healthiest 19 year old cat he has seen. I don't want to have her put down, but am tired of us all wading through her mess. We have had to stop the DDs from playing downstairs as Pussy made pipi in their princess castle and on the trampoline. We have a new au pair starting in 2 weeks, and it is not fair on her to have to put up with it. It also makes the house stink. I have had Pussy since I was just 22, when I left home and moved to Poland and she has been with me ever since. DH and the kids hate her - as well as pissy she is vicious and will let only me stroke her. Any suggestions? Am at the end of my tether...

Other than keeping her penned somewhere, I can't see a solution

Can't the vet give her any medication?

Noo to the medication. They have good stuff for senile dogs, but not cats.

I'd try ringing places like the Cats Protection League and asking them for advice - or to put you in touch with someone else
And get a second opinion from a different practice

Check she's not diabetic? Sympathies- ours started peeing everywhere- we tried to get a shelter to take her - no luck- all full with huge waiting lists- decided to get her put down (she was peeing right where ds1 ate- and it stank) but then just in the nick of time she stopped. She is diabetic though- and we now give her insulin and then chuck her out at night (used to let her stay in- and every morning there would be a puddle). Feel a bit mean but figure she's better being put out that put down

JimJams, she's not diabetic, nothing wrong with her kidneys (vet did tests), she eats like a horse, tho is very thin. We have started putting her out at night, feel very cruel, but at least am not faced with steaming caca and pools of pipi first thing in the morning. Not sure what we will do when it gets colder . My poor old puss ...she has been with me for so long and has travelled with me too. Perhaps a little shelter outside might help.

I bloody wish marthamoo (lovely pics by the way- more thread crashing). Am getting very worried as ds1 starts his new school on Thursday and I feel I need to be around.

We've just had our 15yo cat put to sleep with similar problems. She just seemed to have forgotten what to do. She's a persian and was covered in her own do-do's, we couldn't have her indoors and life was pretty miserable for us and her. Apart from keeping your cat caged somewhere, I can't think what you might do, tbh. We had various leaflets with advice from our vet but nothing really applied to our mog.

tanzie- I think they're quite good at finding shelter- our cat is very crap- very stupid for a cat- but she seems to have found somewhere to go as she seems to stay dry etc. It's the only way iif they are peeing everywhere- I was wiping up puddles every morning and it was too much (not even our cat she came free with the house).

i had to make sure my shed door was shut propely as a neighbours cat set up home in there.

Can u make a kennal type place for your cat outside?

She has a wooden travel box, we could cover the roof with plastic and put a blanket inside for her and put it by the back door where it is quite sheltered.

but 19 is very impressive for a cat!!!

She is an impressive cat! She is small, black and fluffy with huge yellow eyes and her ears are completely intact - she has won every fight she has had and still sees off cats twice her size [mad old cat woman emoticon!] I feel very sorry for her, but I am feeling sorry for me too, having to do o much cleaning
