Christmas Stories

Have realised that we don't have any books stories about Christmas to read in the run up. Would like to get a few - maybe one about the nativity (although we are not religious feel they should know the basics) and perhaps one or two others about Fr Christmas or other Christmassy stories. Any favuorites out there you can recommend? DS is 4.5 and DD is 2.5.

We love the 'Night Before Christmas' illustrated by Christian Birmingham too, which we bought at Ottakers, the illustrations are lovely for a child of any age. We also have Dick Bruna's 'The Christmas Book', which has a 'pop out' nativity scene in it and is v. sweet, I love it, but dd is not so wild about it yet (she's 2). Will try out some of these suggestions though, I never thought of tapes before, a really good idea!

A Christmas Story by Brian Wildsmith - lovely illustrations and lots of gold. Based on the Xmas story it is the story of a baby donkey who goes to find his mother.

Jolly Christmas Postman - the Allbergs. Although too old for ds (22 months) he loves the envelopes to open which contain cards, games, peepshow etc. I think this will last a few years.
