Radio 4 today, the ‘’elastic band on your phone’ trick

I only caught the end of the programme (about 1:30pm) so missed the explanation of the trick.

Did anyone hear it/know what it is?

I think the idea was to make you pause and make a concious choice to waste time on your phone. Because picking it up has become so automatic.

yes, I think so too but I'm not sure what the elastic band is supposed to achieve.
Is it that you have to take it off to be able to scroll maybe?

I think if it's on your phone the idea is that taking it off and putting it back on reinforces how oftn you're doing it and how often you're using your phone. Like the trick of wearing one on your wrist and switching it over every time you (for example) make a negative comment. It's designed to make you pay attention to your behaviour.

The Atomic Habits book talks about putting quite small barriers in your path to stop bad habits - often it doesn't take much (moving something to another room etc). Environment is often more important than motivation. So I guess it's something along those lines.
